English: Aspidoscopulia sp., a species of Glass Sponge, photographed 1000-3000 m. below sea-level by the Deep Discoverer (D2) remotely operated vehicle while conducting research in the Musicians Seamounts. This photo was published in the NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration and Research (OER) Benthic Deepwater Animal Identification guide. This photo was taken 1 hr., 1 min., & 17 sec. into dive #5 of expedition #1708. The species in this image may have been identified with the help of Dr. Christopher Kelley, Dr. Konstantin Tabachnick, Dr. Henry Reiswig and/or Dr. Rob van Soest. |
