Bad Boys Blue

Bad Boys Blue is een Duits Europop (Italo disco) trio opgericht in Keulen in 1984 door Tony Hendrick, Andrew Thomas, de Britse zanger John Edward McInerney en Trevor Tailor.

Geschiedenis

Dit trio scoorde vele internationale hits met onder andere You're a Woman, I'm the Man, I Wanna Hear Your Heartbeat en Come Back and Stay.

In 1988 verliet Tailor de groep en werd vervangen door Trevor Bannister. En Bannister op zijn beurt verliet de groep in 1993. De twee overgebleven leden van de groep gingen als een duo verder totdat Mo Russel zich in 1995 bij hen aansloot.

Na 2 jaar geen enkel album uitgebracht te hebben, brachten ze in 1998 Back uit, met op deze plaat het nieuwe bandlid Kevin McCoy die in de plaats kwam van Russel.

De muziek van Bad Boys Blue is te vergelijken met die van Modern Talking. Met name de hoge stemmen hebben ze van Modern Talking overgenomen. De Muziek van beide groepen valt onder het genre italodisco. Hoewel de vrolijke, veelal zomerse klanken (onder andere door het veelvuldige gebruik van synthesizers) zeker typisch zijn, zullen sommige liefhebbers van Italiaanse italodisco deze muziek niet altijd onder de noemer "Italo" willen scharen. Omdat de Duitse Italodisco typischer klinkt met een overdreven overproductie, meer nadruk op de melodie en met name de thema's die meer serieus zijn gericht op romantiek. Ondanks dat de muziek op sommige punten anders klinkt dan de Italiaanse italodisco is Bad Boys Blue een typisch voorbeeld van originele Duitse italodisco. De term "Italo Disco" komt oorspronkelijk ook uit Duitsland.
