(published as frontispiece illustration in The fighting governor; a chronicle of Frontenac, by Charles W. Colby, Glasgow, Brook & Company, Toronto, 1915 [1])
Part of a series of fourteen hundred and forty-six works of art, ca. 1911-1950, consisting of images prepared for the "Picture Gallery of Canadian History", published by Ryerson Press (3 vols. 1942-1950) and other reconstructed images of Canadian history. Many are copies of works by other artists. The collection of 1446 drawings and collages was sold by two of Charles W. Jefferys' daughters in 1954 to Imperial Oil Limited, which used the works in the 1950s and 1960s. The sale transferred copyright (on Jefferys' works) as well as physical ownership to Imperial OIl. The collection is now held by Library and Archives Canada. Copyright on art work (accession 1972-026 PIC) and prints (accession 1956-043 PIC), where applicable, belongs to Library and Archives Canada. [2]
