IHL Symbol Het gebruik van het afgebeelde symbool wordt geregeld door enkele internationale verdragen, in het bijzonder de Conventies van Den Haag (1899 en 1907), de Conventies van Genève (1949) en hun additionele protocollen van 1977 en 2005, evenals door de bijkomende zowel verdragsrechtelijke als gewoonterechtelijke voorschriften van het Internationaal Humanitair Recht. Misbruik van dit symbool is niet alleen verboden door deze verdragen, maar ook door de nationale rechtsregels van de ratificerende landen.
