Carrie Marie Underwood (Muskogee, 10 maart 1983) is een Amerikaans zangeres van countrymuziek. Ze was winnaar van American Idol in 2005.

Biografie

Underwood is geboren in het Muskogee Regional Medical Center en groeide op op de boerderij van haar ouders in het landelijke Checotah. Ze is de jongste van drie dochters van vader Stephen en moeder Carole Underwood. Haar zussen, Shanna Underwood Means en Stephanie Underwood Shelton zijn geboren in 1973 en 1970.

Underwood brak door toen ze de vierde editie van American Idol won. Haar debuutalbum, Some Hearts, verkreeg in de Verenigde Staten zevenvoudig platina, en was het snelst verkopende country-album sinds de introductie van de Nielsen SoundScan in 1991. Underwood is de eerste American Idol-winnaar die prijzen heeft gewonnen bij de grote prijzenshows. Zo kreeg ze een American Music Award, een Billboard Music Award en een Grammy Award.

Op 10 juli 2010 trad Carrie in het huwelijk met ijshockeyspeler Mike Fisher.

In Nederland is Carrie Underwood relatief onbekend.

Nummer één op de hitlijsten in US en Canada

• Vier singles uit Some hearts bereikten de eerste plaats in de Verenigde Staten en Canada, te weten: Inside your heaven, Jesus, take the wheel, Before he cheats en Wasted. Het album en de singles daaruit kregen samen zeven keer platina.
• Haar tweede album Carnival ride, uitgebracht op 23 oktober 2007, verkocht met driemaal platina minder goed, maar leverde eveneens enkele singles op de eerste plaats in de hitnotering, namelijk So small, All-American girl, Last name en Just a dream.
• In het najaar van 2009 kwam Play on uit, Underwoods derde album. In de Verenigde Staten en Canada kwam dit album direct op de eerste plaats. Drie singles uit dat album bereikten de eerste plaats: Cowboy Casanova, Temporary home en Undo it.
