Plasmodium malariae is een eencellige en een van de vijf soorten Plasmodium die malaria bij de mens veroorzaken. P. malariae is verantwoordelijk voor de goedaardige malariavariant "Malaria quartana". P. malariae veroorzaakt ongeveer 10% van de malariagevallen.[1]
