Volgens mij werd de I.germanicus naar een Romeinse keizer genoemd. Het is ook niet logisch dat hij naar Duitsland genoemd is wanneer hij uit zuid-europa komt. GerardM 27 mei 2004 21:34 (CEST)
- Ik schrijf ook niet dat de naam germanicus van duits afkomstig is, maar dat de naam duitse lis waarschijnlijk van germanicus is afgeleid. Ik heb er overigens geen bezwaar tegen wanneer je die zinsnede verwijdert, ik concludeerde het maar weet niet meer zeker waar ik het op baseerde.

When I found the flower in the wild, I hesitated for a while between siberica and germanica. There are several reasons why I decided on germanica instead of siberica:
- According to http://www.stmk.gv.at/LUIS/Naturschutz/Artenschutz/Flora/Beschreibung/IriSib.htm the siberica grows at altitudes from 200 - 1400 meters. Mine was at sea level.
- One book listed flowers of germanica as 10 cm across, those of siberica as 6 cm across. These were 9-10 cm across.
- Siberica is not supposed to grow in the Netherlands, though it does grow in Germany.
Looking at it again, I think you might be right, and that I mistook the yellow in the flower for the yellow beard which should be characteristic of germanica. On the other hand, http://www.giftpflanzen.com/iris_germanica.html does show a flower without a clear yellow beard, the yellow being similar to the yellow in my pix.
So I am very interested to learn what makes you so certain about the determination.
