Café liégeois or in other words “Homemade Coffee Ice Cream” ( a coffee and chocolate dessert), used to be universally known as Café Viennois. But after the Germans defeated Belgium, attacking the city of Liège and engaging in a battle which marked the beginning of World War I. They honored the city of Liège for its resistance, and because the city was shelled with Austrian guns, Paris' cafés started renaming the dessert café liégeois in honour of Belgium's embattled forts. Curiously, in Liège itself it continued to be known as Café Viennois. – De voorgaande bijdrage werd geplaatst door 121.74.214.247 (overleg · bijdragen) 27 okt 2014 10:23‎
