Hi Trougnouf, I saw you replaced two very good pictures with yours. While you make great pictures, I’m not convinced the replacement is an improvement. I’d love to hear your view. SvenDK (overleg) 10 mrt 2021 21:14 (CET)[reageer]

Hi @SvenDK:,
Thank you for your message. I replaced the two previous picture because I thought they were redundant (same point of view), and the image I took is of higher quality without compromising on encyclopedic value.
I made sure the image I took satisfies the image guidelines for quality images (and have it vetted by the community). Compared to the existing images that mainly means perspective correction (ie the vertical lines are vertical) and sharpness (level of details, eg each brick is distinct when looking at the full resolution).
In addition to the basic standards, I made sure that the subject is well centered (see: two lamp posts around the main entrance), and most importantly (imo) I tried to capture the best possible light. I usually aim for golden hour or civil twilight, but good weather and golden hour alone isn't sufficient and I had to try again and come back multiple times to get a view that wasn't obstructed by harsh shadows (such as this earlier attempt). My goal is to make Wikipedia articles prettier with high quality pictures in such a good light that one who likes the subject would be happy to make a large print off the picture they see while learning more about it.
What do you think is missing in File:Town hall of Woluwe-Saint-Lambert during golden hour (DSC 2171).jpg compared to File:Mais.Comm.W-S-L.01.JPG and File:Maison communale de Woluwe-Saint-Lambert.JPG? I think it would make sense to add an additional picture of the other side of the town hall, but we currently don't have a complete view of it yet (File:Belgique - Bruxelles - Tomberg - 01.jpg but it only shows a crop on the central part rather than the whole picture. I took one the first time I was there but haven't developed it yet and I don't know whether the light will work.)
Best,

I see. I was missing the blue sky, and the clearly present subway sign. I didn’t realise the previous pictures were over 10 year old. So the Subway sign is today less visible, a fact you cannot change. Getting a nice blue sky in Belgium is not easy, so thank you for already being so focused to get a nice picture and waiting for the golden hour. And while most people never get exposed to the higher resolution image it is indeed much crisper if you need/want to look at it in detail. I now understand and agree with your proposal.
