Jonathan King, geboren als Kenneth George King, (Londen, 6 december 1944), is een Britse zanger, songwriter en muziekproducer.

Carrière

Reeds als student aan de universiteit van Cambridge schreef Jonathan King zijn eerste hit Everyone's Gone to the Moon, die een miljoenenseller werd in de Verenigde Staten. Op 22-jarige leeftijd was King manager bij Decca Records, op 25-jarige leeftijd was hij eigenaar van het label UK Records.

In de loop van de daaropvolgende jaren publiceerde hij meerdere platen onder verschillende pseudoniemen, waaronder als Sakkarin: Sugar, Sugar (1971) en Hang On Sloopy (1971), als Shag: Loop Di Love (1972), als One Hundred Tons & a Feather: It Only Takes a Minute, als Bubblerock: Satisfaction. Bovendien verschenen zijn platen als Weathermen (It's the Same Old Song), 53rd & 3rd, Sound 9418, Piglets, Angelettes en Father Abraphart & the Smurps. In totaal zijn ongeveer 30 synoniemen bekend. In 1975 had hij onder zijn eigen naam een verdere hit met Una Paloma Blanca.

Daarnaast schreef King in diverse muziektijdschriften over popmuziek, produceerde in 1967 de eerste lp van de band Genesis, die hij ook de naam gaf en bemoedigde en ontdekte bands, waaronder 10cc, The Kursaal Flyers, The Bay City Rollers en Hedgehoppers Anonymous.
