"Ilocos" is an ethnocentric term predominantly used and promoted by the Ilocanos. There are other ethno-linguistic groups in the region such as the Pangasinan and the Bolinao. The ethno-neutral term would be "Northwestern Luzon Region".
- Hello there! The name: "Ilocos Region" is used, because this article is about the administrative region Ilocos Region (also callled Region I). The name has not been made up here by Wikipedia, but is the official name of this administrative region. I am aware that in this region, several ethnic groups live, and I will add this to the article at a later stage, when I have time to do this. Hello! It is not the official name but the de-facto name of the region. The de-facto name of the region promotes bias against non-Ilocanos. Pangasinan speaking people did not belong to this region. Marcos placed the Pangasinan speaking people into this region. By using an ethno-neutral term in your language would help in correcting mis-impressions about this tiny region. It would help alleviate dissatisfaction among the Pangasinan people. Thanks again.
- I fully understand your point of view. I cannot change the name of this article however. The reason for this is, that on Wikipedia we use the official name for administrative regions. We try to describe the situation from a neutral point of view but that does not mean we can just come up with a new name, because it is a ethno-neutral name. The government of the Philippines have decided the name of region I is Ilocos Region and therefor it has that name on Wikipedia. If they change the name, we will also change the name. This is the way it should be, because we are not a platform to change things in real life, but an encyclopedia. What can be done however is describe the situation is the article itself: There can be a section describing all ethnic groups is the region. Magalhães 27 jun 2007 12:19 (CEST)
