This image comes from Los Alamos National Laboratory, a national laboratory privately operated under contract from the United States Department of Energy by Los Alamos National Security, LLC between October 1, 2007 and October 31, 2018. LANL allowed anyone to use it for any purpose, provided that the copyright holder is properly attributed. Redistribution, derivative work, commercial use, and all other use is permitted. 	Dit bestand bevindt zich in het publiek domein, omdat het gemaakt is door de NASA. In de reproductierichtlijnen van de NASA staat dat "NASA-materiaal niet beschermd wordt door auteursrecht, tenzij anders vermeld". (NASA copyright policy page of JPL Image Use Policy).
	Waarschuwingen: Het gebruik van logo's, insignes en emblemen van de NASA wordt beperkt door de Amerikaanse wet 14 CFR 1221. Op de website van de NASA staat een groot aantal afbeeldingen van het Sovjet-/Russisch ruimteagentschap en andere niet-Amerikaanse ruimteagentschappen. Deze afbeeldingen bevinden zich niet noodzakelijk in het publieke domein. Materiaal dat gebaseerd is op gegevens van de ruimtetelescoop Hubble wordt mogelijk beschermd door auteursrecht als dit niet expliciet vervaardigd is door het STScI [1]. Zunächst einmal wird bei der Quelle auf das Los Alamos National Laboratory als Urheber der Bilder verwiesen. Aufgrund des amerikanischen Gesetzes, dass alle Veröffentlichungen von amerikanischen Regierungsorganisationen in der Public Domain veröffentlich werden müssen ist also davon auszugehen, dass dieses Bild tatsächlich PD ist.

Auf den Seiten des Los Alamos National Laboratory war das Bild jedoch nicht zu finden. Jedoch fand sich ein Hinweis, dass mehrere Bilder und ein Video der Vela-Satelliten in ihrer Medienbibliothek auf Videoband auf Anfrage verfügbar sind:
