Guy Van Nueten (Turnhout, July 25, 1965) is a Belgian composer, producer and pianist.

Biografie[bewerken | brontekst bewerken]

Van Nueten started playing the piano at the age of five. His mother made him attend a local music school and as a result of this he was able to read music before he could actually read. At the age of fifteen he started to dabble in rock music. He joined the band The Sands and wrote their single April & June, which was released in 1992. Their self-titled debut album was produced by Bill Janovitz of Buffalo Tom. It was released in 1995 by the Dutch label Megadisc and distributed in Europe by MCA Records. The band toured the continent to promote this album and as a support act for ao. John Cale.

In 1998 he went back to studying the piano and attended the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp to study composition and harmonics.

Van Nueten has written music for theatre companies such as Toneelhuis, Toneelgroep Amsterdam, Les Ballets C de la B, deFilharmonie and HETPALEIS. In 2005 he composed the musical Soepkinders in 2005, for which he received a Flemish Musical Award. He also provided the soundtrack music for the movie Ex Drummer (Koen Mortier, 2007) and the short film Eva (Alex Stockman, 2006), which was in the Official Competition at the Venice Film Festival. He also wrote the music for Pulsar (Alex Stockman, 2012), which starred Matthias Schoenaerts.

Since 2016 Van Nueten is a "Fellow" at the American Sundance Institute, where he worked on a project with dancer Sheila Rojas and choreographer and director Amar Al-Bojrad. The dance performance they created was called Boredom, which was part of a series of international cultural exchange programs for independent artists at the institute, which includes a program to support artists from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

Van Nueten has performed with and arranged music by artists like dEUS, Admiral Freebee, Zita Swoon, Magnus, Tim Vanhamel and DAAN. For dEUS he has provided synths or piano onn tracks from their albums The Ideal Crash (1998), Pocket Revolution (2005), Vantage Point (2008) and Following Sea (2012)

[15] Two of his songs were in the 'Top 100 Belgian songs of all time' of the Belgian magazine Knack and the double CD Live (together with Tom Barman, singer of dEUS), for which Van Nueten wrote and performed piano arrangements.
