Following statements should be corrected:

  • The fire did not start by Catherine O'Learys cow. She had went to bed when the fire broke out. She used to milk her cows about 1630 to 17. In 1893, the Chicago Republican reporter Michael Ahern admitted he had made the cow story.[1] The cause of the fire is still unknown.
  • In 1871, the address of O'Learys barn was 137 De Koven Street.
  • The fire did mainly spread in northeastern direction (till it reached Lake Michigan), not northewestern - because the wind was southwesterly.
