As of 9 September 2013, the Saudi government asked "elderly and chronically ill Muslims to avoid the hajj this year" and have restricted the numbers of people allowed into the country due to Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus. Yahoo must have had a crystal ball, to have foreseen this 9 September event in an article written two days earlier... Also, the article doesn't claim a restriction on people allowed into the country, it merely says they "have cut back on the numbers of people they will allow to perform the pilgrimage", without any indication whether these people are from abroad or from within Saudi Arabia itself. The source of this Yahoo article is listed as AFP, who on their own site have a different story [1]. AFP writes, already on 13 Juli 2013, that the government "urged elderly and chronically ill Muslims not to perform the hajj pilgrimage." AFP also states, that "the statement did not set an age limit, and it was not clear if the recommendation implies that no visas will be issued for such pilgrims." Furthermore, AFP reports that "the WHO has not recommended any MERS-related travel restrictions".
