The embankment was triangular in section, with a massive base five hundred feet wide tapering to twelve feet at the top. At the centre of this was the puddled clay wall which was to act as a waterproof membrane. It was on the integrity of this that the capacity of the dam to hold water would depend. Zoals het er staat op bladzijde 20: Meanwhile, back at Dale Dyke, the contractors had sent four or five workmen to the valvehouse at the foot of the embankment to open the valves which would release water through the twin outlet pipes whilst they went to the far side to see if the water level had yet reached the level of the overflow weir. Verderop tijdens de hoorzitting wordt nogmaals op die pijpen ingegaan, wanneer de coroner voorstelt ze te laten opgraven. 62.31.22.99 31 aug 2013 21:39 (CEST)
