English: Drawing of the 'Arcus Einhardi', probably the silver foot of a crux gemmata (reliquary cross decorated with gems) formerly in the Treasury of the Basilica of Saint Servatius in Maastricht (lost since the 18th c.). Drawing by unknown artist, 17th c, now in the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris.
Details of the two sides of the arch, depicting on each side two soldiers saints (both with nimbus) standing on a decorated podium, all four wearing traditional Roman soldier tunics and holding vexilla. |
