Yelworc, Calva Y Nada etc. were never EBM acts... The second generation (Covenant, Feindflug etc.) is called elektro, because it's a complete other style with an influence of techno. That's not really EBM.

EBM was dead in the early 90's. The last albums came from Signal Aout 42, Insekt and Front 242. Shortly after, a new generation was born with different styles of electronic music (dark electro, electro-industrial etc.).

A 2nd generation of EBM developed after the year 2000 (Proceed, Spetsnaz, Volt, Dupont, Sturm Café and many more). They're influenced by DAF, Nitzer Ebb & Pouppée Fabrikk.

  • This is not true. "Electro" of "Elektro" is just a short name for "Electronic body music" populair in Germany and Belgium. There is already a musical style called that, with influences from early hiphop, Kraftwerk and funk (Drexciya, Legowelt, Underground Resistance and the likes). The influences from techno are just on the productional level. When i let techno-oriented friends of my listen to VNV Nation, they say it resembles Front 242.

...resembles Front242? maybe after their EBM-period. The last original EBM-album of Front 242 was "Front by Front" (1988). "Tyranny For You" (with tracks like Neurobashing etc.) is a pioneer album of the following Goa trance-scene (Juno Reactor etc.).
Germany has an own EBM scene in camouflage style & war-look like Richard23 in the early 80's. Any people look like psychobillies or skinheads. This people doesn't like this modern elektro-stuff. Elektro is an offshoot of EBM, nothing more. Maybe in belgium, the people can't hear a difference between the styles. No idea. But in my opinion, EBM tracks use old synths (e.g. DX7, Moog, Korg, Emulator...) & clear vocals or grunts... no brachial beats, no distorted vocals and no techno sounds.
I know, there is another style, but this style is newer, developed in the middle of the 90's with Anthony Rother, SEM, RAC & others. The Hip Hop style in the 80's was called electro funk, not electro.
But the term of the offshoot of EBM (elektro) came from the early 90's, after the EBM-scene was dissolved in germany. (i can scan the old zines, but it's german language). This term elektro is also known in Brazil and Argentinia.
BTW: When i let techno-oriented people listen to VNV Nation, they say it sounds like Scooter. =O)
Greets.

Maybe i will add Scooter to the list of EBM bands. :D But seriously, i can not take your arguments seriously, because they are obviously biased. There is a big difference between the different artist in the Techno scene (from the melodic and funky Detroit style, to the harsch Stockholm minimalism, which borders indsutrial) and it is all Techno, so why shouldn't that appeal to EBM? I collect EBM records and stuff since 1984, and i can clearly see where VNV Nation, Covenant, Suicide Commando and the likes came from. It is EBM. In a modern updated form, but it is definitely EBM.
And i can hear a Techno/trance influence. The most Future Pop stuff sounds like Rave or Eurodance, not really EBM. EBM use typical DAF sequences and more rock rhythms, not a BOOM BOOM techno-bassdrum. Maybe, you have a wrong idea of the EBM-style.
BTW: Detroit Techno was influenced by EBM. And i don't mean Detroit Techno. I mean harsh techno... monotone and minimal like laurent garnier etc. ;-)
I know what EBM is, You seem to be stuck in the 80's sound. That's your problem.
