Roberto Lione (Rome August 15th, 1941) became succesfull in the film and animation industry from the 1970's untill present.

Roberto Lione is an Italian/American award-winning filmmaker, director, screenwriter, Mod Art artist and director of photography who has pioneered a new style in film animation. Film critics at the Positano Cartoons on the Bay Festival (2004) have described his approach to film animation as" having a poetical dimension, almost metaphysical which recalls De Chirico and the Surrealists" (My movies. it).Roberto Lione launched his career in filmmaking at age 22 when he left studying philosophy as a layperson at the Gregorian University and produced two documentaries Febbre (Fever) and Vacanze Nei Campi (Vacation in the Country), the latter of which was broadcast on prime time on RaiTV-2, Italy's Public Television.

  • He then moved to the U.S. with Louise, his American wife who was working in Rome for the Associated Press. After a short stint as a film cameraman for WMAR-TV and WHYY-TV, he went to New York City where he produced "Ciao", a promotional special that featured the best programs produced by Italian television. This led him to starting his own companies in sales and acquisition of film rights and film distribution for the non theatrical market, a trade that he practiced for 20 years while simultaneously engaging in producing educational audiovisuals for the school market and documentaries for television together with photo reportages of historical sites in Sicily.


  • He produced and directed Unknown Treasures a series of historical documentaries (9 titles) funded by the local regional Office of Tourism .He produced and directed Basic Soccer; Footbal: Fundamentals of Injury Prevention; Prevention and Care of Sports Injuries; Legends and Tales from Around the World.


  • Lione developed his innovative animation style as a result of a research project he began in 1994 in association with Perugia University, Salzburg University and French satellite operator Eutelsat. Although originally created as a teaching and communication tool, the project gained momentum and widespread support as a research program in experimental cinematography.


  • In 1996, Lione's "Innovative Technique in Film Animation" received additional funding and Lione started a training program at the Centro Multimediale new film studios in Terni, 80 km north of Rome.


  • In 1998, Lione began creating Taco & Paco, a colorful series of stories produced in paper-motion to introduce children to the wonders of nature. Taco&Paco aired from 2000 to 2009 on RAI-TV, Italy's Public Television. To produce this series, Lione created an animation studio consisting of more than 35 professionals including animators, graphic designers, editors, illustrators, scripwriters, and computer operators. He directed and co-wrote 50 Taco & Paco stories out of 53, and co-wrote, produced and directed 12 theatrical Taco & Paco shorts distributed as a feature film under the title L'ESTATE DI TACO E PACO (Summer with Taco and Paco).


  • One of Lione's most challenging achievements began in 1999 when he wrote "Kate La Bisbetica Domata (Kate The Taming of the Shrew), the first stop-motion feature length film in the history of the Italian (Kate The Taming of the Shrew.jpg|thumb|Poster Kate La Bisbetica Domata (Kate The Taming of the Shrew]] cinema. As director, director of photography, and producer of this film, Lione received much acclaim for Kate, which was featured in prestigious film festivals including the Chicago International Children's Film Festival, First Prize Children's Jury (Oct.2004).
  • In 2007, Lione produced and directed the TV Pilot ZooPlayhouse in London,a blend of stop motion and digital animation for children age 4 to 6. In 2008 he produced the experimental program for the web Zoot4Kids.


  • Starting 2009 to present, Lione created and published a collection of art calendars on different subjects and Wall Art Stickers including: Pasta with Gusto, The Wild Flowers of Umbria and The World of T&P.


  • In 2011 he presented his ModArt works to the public in two personal exhibits: in Calcata (the artists village near Rome), and in the city of Udine.


  • Starting 2012 to present, Lione started R & D for Math Playhouse an interactive internet game to entertain, amuse and introduce children to the wonders of mathematics.
