Update (for IE9) needed for GoogleTrans gadget

Hi there,

Thanks for installing the GoogleTrans gadget on nlwiki. I hope it has been useful for you.

Because of IE9 you need to update the source of GoogleTrans, which is available at

en:User:Endo999/GoogleTrans.js

As per the install instructions at

en:User:Endo999/GoogleTrans

you need to change two variable names

from 'fr' to 'en' (default translation to language) and 'en' to 'nl' (default translation from language)

They are at the top of the javascript file.

I have worked on GoogleTrans a bit and it, with the help of my LINUX box in Canberra Australia, can now do Text to Speech (in rough Dutch). I have a version of this (which is otherwise the existing Gadget set for nlwiki) at:

In order to get the gadget to speak, make a text selection (<4000 characters), place the cursor within the text selection, and hold the ESC key down for a second. You should then see a sound bar, which will play the text selected. It uses ESPEAK for the dutch so I don't think it is very good, but you'll have to tell me how it sounds.

The idea is that someone learning Dutch may like to listen to Dutch (at 140 words per minute) in order to learn how to listen to slow Dutch.

Both scripts (at enwiki and at my spot on nlwiki) will work on IE9 (which your current gadget won't).

I'm still trying to confirm that I have IE9-speaking working. It definitely works on Firefox 3.5+, and any IE that has flash on it. I had the IE9 working but due to some changes I made last week I have to test again on that platform.

You are welcome to try out GoogleTrans-Speak on my nlwiki account, or just get GoogleTrans at the enwiki location.

New version of GoogleTrans gadget

Hi there,

I've got a new version of GoogleTrans gadget.

It

1) supports ie11

2) adds some new languages

3) changes some of the javascript to use the new Wikipedia MW object

I've got the new version of the gadget at:

User:Endo999/GoogleTrans.js

(I had a strange message when I created this file, saying that there was a invalid url because of Google issues?)

I haven't been able to find the actual gadget file, (I thought it was the User:Endo999/GoogleTrans.js but this seems to have changed).

This change isn't a crucial one. Support for ie11 is the only real issue. ie10 and ie9 work just fine.
