Emiel Wastyn (born 1 January 1992) is a Belgian professional road bicycle racer for World Tour team An Post-Chainreaction.
Early life and amateur career[bewerken | brontekst bewerken]
Born in Menen, Wastyn grows up in the nearby Geluwe. He has one sister and was brought up by his parents.
Emiel always loved sports and started at a young age with cycling. At the age of 18 he went to Universiteit Gent to study. During that period he defended the colors of Jong Vlaanderen (wielerploeg). The final year of university he signed for Veranda's Willems. After attaining his Master (graad) in Industrial Science Engineering he could concentrate on his cycling career.

Wastyn came in the pro peloton signing for Veranda's Willems in 2014. During this first year at Veranda's Willems he combined cycling and university. The year after Wastyn could focus more on cycling after he successfully attained his degree at university. In his first year he rode some good results and won Izegem Koers in a sprint before Michael Van Staeyen and Timothy Dupont.

After a promising year in the pro peloton, Wastyn showed a lot of potential. He eventually signed a contract with the Irish cycling team An Post-Chainreaction.
Wastyn is one of the fast guys of the An Post-Chainreaction team, often used as a lead out for his team mates. Though he also manages to ride some good results. In the Grand Prix Criquielion he just missed the podium with a 4th place. In An Post Rás he also showed his good form working for the team and his team mate Aaron Gate who won the green points jersey for the second time in a row. Wastyn also managed to 4 top 10 places in 8 stages at An Post Rás. He finished 5th in stage 2, 2nd in stage 4, 6th in stage 6 and he finished 3rd in stage 8.
