“I am Andrea Crews and I am 18 years old.

I was born in a mountain of trash rubbish of fashion’s consumerism. It was before the fast fashion wave. Already with both feet on a plastic continent diving in colors and polyester. Soft and glamorous shapes to destroy and create. My mum was a supermodel in the 90’s. Wearing luxury it-bags and lipstick traces. She loved the great empire of fashion. I love my mom but I hate determinism. So I became a fashion activist. And now I burn sacred imagery. This season with my wild friends we customize our jeans to send our message. We wear the fashion revolution on our tall, small, big and beautiful bodies. We do it ourselves, I epicycle my jeans like I upcycle the world. With my hand, and my heart. Do you know this powerful lady making politics and poetry? I wish she could lead us to a better future. It’s all about turning the world upside down. I passionately love fashion. It’s emotional power. Its political power. Fashion is everywhere and so are we. Show how precious you are.”

Andrea Crews was born in the early 2000 in art centers during an activist vintage clothes upcycling performance organised by designer and art director Maroussia Rebecq. The performance united numerous artists from different disciplines and with different backgrounds. The outcomes were very experimental, revolutionary, rebellious and multi-disciplinary. The main goal focusses on revolutionizing fashion codes. The oeuvre of Andrea Crews does not only exists out of funky, collorful upcycled clothing but so much more: music performances , an exhibition space, publishing projects, upcycling workshops,...

A lot of people are connected to Andrea Crews. Over the years it became a worldwide community: friends of friends, time to time, practice to practice. It can be designers, musicians, performers, writers, muses. The world is small and big is the family! Collaboration is one of its most important values. There is so much energy to share! Due to collaboration inspiration arises it creates an everyday “remise en question” and makes every idea stronger. Working with a lot of people keeps the community engaged. The concept travels to Berlin, New York, Mexico,... to raise awareness of upcycling in the art scene and anchor the protean collective in a well-defined discipline, that of fashion.
