Mancur Olson

Mancur Olson (22 januari 1932- 19 februari 1998) was een Amerikaanse econoom, die zich vooral bezighield met institutionele economie, collectieve actie en economische ontwikkeling. Olson gaf een nieuwe bijdrage aan de logische basis van de collectieve handelingstheorie.

In zijn eerste boek, The Logic of Collective Action: Public Goods and the Theory of Groups (1965) geeft hij aan dat individuen collectief handelen om private goederen te verkrijgen, maar niet om collectieve goederen te verkrijgen. Deze gedachtegang staat bekend als het dilemma van de collectieve actie.
