Heather Ann Nauert, Rockford (Illinois), V.S., 27 januari 1970 is een Amerikaanse journalist.

Zij fungeert momenteel als onderminister van Buitenlandse Zaken voor Publieke Diplomatie en Publieke Zaken en als Woordvoerder van het Department van Buitenlandse Zaken sinds resp. 13 maart 2018 en 24 april 2017.

Zij is voormalig ABC News-correspondent en Fox News-host.

Nauert werd geboren in Rockford, Illinois. Haar vader, Peter Nauert, was werkzaam in de verzekeringssector. Zij heeft drie broers: Justin, Jonathan and Joseph.

Nauert doorliep Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill (Massachusetts) en behaalde haar Bachelor of Arts graad in Communicatie aan Mount Vernon College for Women. Zij behaalde haar master's graad in journalistiek aan Columbia University.

Journalistiek. In 1996 was Nauert verslaggever voor het wekelijkse zaken programma First Business. Ze werkte voor Fox News van 1998 tot 2005, eerst als medewerker voor drie jaar en daarna als correspondent voor vier jaar. Tijdens haar tijd als correspondent werkte zij regelmatig bij aan de The Big Story.

Van 2005 tot 2007 bekleedde Nauert posities bij talrijke nieuwsorganisaties, waaronder bij ABC News als correspondent in algemene dienst, waar ze meewerkte aan World News Tonight, Good Morning America en Nightline. Terwijl werkzaam bij ABC, kreeg zij een Emmy nominatie voor haar werk aan de bijzondere series t Around the World.

Nauert has done the newscasts Good Day Early Call and Good Day New York Wake Up with co-anchor Steve Lacy weekday mornings for Fox owned-and-operated station WNYW in New York City. In October 2012, Nauert left Good Day Wake Up.[5]

In 2007, Nauert returned to Fox News as co-host with John Gibson of the weekday edition of The Big Story.[4]

Nauert has also worked as a government affairs consultant on issues including health insurance, Social Security and taxes. She was also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.[4]

In February 2017, after Nordstrom's ended sales of Ivanka Trump's clothing line, Nauert tweeted that she would buy 2 pairs and wear them all week and accused Nordstrom's of "caving to liberal pressure".[6]

Nauert and Mike Pompeo meeting with Chinese State Councilor Wang Yi in Beijing, China on June 14, 2018 On April 24, 2017, the United States Department of State announced that Nauert would be the new State Department spokesperson, her first role in government.[7] She held her first press briefing in that role five weeks later, on June 6, 2017.[8]

Following the dismissal of Steve Goldstein on March 13, 2018, Nauert was named acting Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs.[9]

In April 2018, Nauert voiced support for Saudi Arabian-led intervention in Yemen. She also condemned "Iran’s malign influence" in Yemen.[10]

In May 2018, Nauert said in response to the Gaza border protests: "We oppose actions against Israel… at the International Criminal Court...because it doesn’t help the cause for peace."[11]

In July 2018, Nauer stirred up controversy when citing the Invasion of Normandy as evidence of a strong relationship between the United States and Germany.[12]

In August 2018, Canada called for the immediate release of Saudi human rights activist Raif Badawi and his sister, Samar Badawi. In response to Canada's criticism, Saudi Arabia expelled Canada’s ambassador, and froze trade with Canada, leading to a decline in Canada–Saudi Arabia relations.[13] Nauert said: "It’s up for the government of Saudi Arabia and the Canadians to work this out. Both sides need to diplomatically resolve this together. We can’t do it for them."[14]

Personal life Nauert is married to Scott Norby, executive director of private credit and equity for Morgan Stanley who previously held positions at National Veterinary Associates, UBS, Goldman Sachs, and Cargill. The couple has two sons, Peter (born October 2009), and Gage (born December 2010).[15][16] She had a salary of $500,000 from Fox News and has an estimated net worth of $3 million.[16]
