Email van archivaris Centennial:
Dear ceescamel

After a bit of research I believe you are in error of connecting Alnaes to composing a Cantata for the Norwegian-American Centennial held in Minneapolis/1925. After looking at the Centennial papers, we found two different cantatas created specifically for the gathering.

1. Norwegian-American Centennial Cantata: text by B.J. Rothnem; music by F. Melius Christiansen 2. Norse Centennial Cantata: text by S.O. Most; Music by J. Rode Jacobsen.

De Noorse Bibliotheek reageert 26.7.2013 als volgt: "I have searched our collection of newspapers from around 1925 in the National library for Eyvind Alnæs and his “Kantate ved hundreårsfestlighetene for den første norske utvandring til Amerika”. It seems like the work was never published, and the only sheetmusic we have is in handwriting. You can look at the digital version here:(zie link artikel)

What I could find in the newspapers is a small article from “Midtsommarstevnet paa Akershus” in Aftenposten 29.6.1925, (A midsummer competition for choirs in Akershus) which says something like this: “…Tonight the show in the large gymnasium hall has one particular attraction as Vilhelm Krag and Eyvind Alnæs’ great “Aapningskantate” will be performed for the last time…”

I can not be certain that this is the same Kantate, but I could not find that we have any other than the one you are asking for with Alnæs and Krag in our collection.
