The Hondells was een door producer Gary Usher samengestelde Amerikaanse studioband.
Geschiedenis
Als eerste nummer namen The Hondells Little Honda (1964) op, dat werd geschreven door Brian Wilson van The Beach Boys. De muzikale stijl van The Hondells verschilde niet zo veel van die van The Beach Boys. Thematisch draaide het bij The Hondells hoofdzakelijk om songs over motoren, auto's, hot rods en racen. Het eerste album Go Little Honda (1964) bevatte titels als A Guy Without Wheels, Hot Rod High, Death Valley Run, Haulin' Honda en Black Boots and Bikes. In 1965 nam de band de reclamesong You Meet the Nicest People on a Honda op voor de Japanse firma Honda en steunden zodoende diens succesvolle reclamecampagne.
The Hondells produceerden twee albums en dertien singles, waarvan echter geen het beginsucces van de eerste single kon evenaren.
Gary Usher produceerde volgens dit principe een hele reeks schijnbands zoals The Kickstands, The Knights, The Four Speeds, The Sunsets, The Competitors en anderen. Hj was een van de drijvende krachten achter de Zuid-Californische hot rod en surfmuziek.
