Line-Gry Hørup is a female graphic designer, researcher and writer from Denmark. She was born in 1988 in Aarhus, Denmark. She works independently and collaboratively with people such as poets, writers, artists, designers, editors and curators. Her work begins from an interest in forms of translation, especially within the relationship between graphic design and poetry. She works primarily with the production of books and visual identities.[1]

Studies[bewerken | brontekst bewerken]

Line-Gry Hørup graduated from Gerrit Rietveld Academie[2], Amsterdam in 2014 and Werkplaats Typografie[3], Arnhem in 2018.

Work[bewerken | brontekst bewerken]

Since 2019 her studio has been based in Copenhagen, Denmark and is named Asterpile Studio[4] after a poem in her first publication: BLOOD[5] – The Poems and Archive of Rudolf Broby-Johansen, published by Kunstverein Publishing[6], 2020. She worked for 6 years on this project. BLOOD is the first English translation of the poems of Danish art historian, and writer Rudolf Broby-Johansen. Line-Gry Hørup translated, edited and designed it. Broby-Johansen’s poems are accompanied by a series of full colour photographs by Amsterdam photographer Johannes Schwartz[7], which document the trip to Brody-Johansen’s recently established archive. They were in fact the first to view it. Her book BLOOD was selected as one of The Best Dutch Book Designs[8] and nominated for the Danish literary prize Schadeprisen. It was also chosen as one of the best artist books and literary books by the Danish newspaper Information.

She is a member of the French-Danish artist collective Physical Culture[9] together with Julie Héneault[10], Margaux Parillaud[11] and Ursula Marcussen[12] . In 2016 they published the book Finissage[13].

From 2015 until 2020 she was the designer and visual editor of the Danish periodical on nature critique: Ny Jord (Forlaget Virkelig, 2015—2020).

She has translated work by American poets H.D.[14] and Marianne Moore into Danish (published in Ny Jord no. 3,4 and 5).

She redesigned the identity for the artist-run center Western Front[15], Vancouver in 2020.

Together with artist and writer Amalie Smith, Line-Gry Hørup won the Danish Bookdesign[16] Prize for Smith’s publication THREAD RIPPER[17] (Gyldendal, 2020). This book contains narrative prose and notes on weaving as an entry point to understanding the digital written by Amelie Smith.
