Metaalwarenfabriek Den Haan Rotterdam B.V. is a company with a history in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Established 7 augustus 1922 by Marinus den Haan as tinsmith workshop. Nowadays the company is still a factory of navigation lights, searchlights, floodlights and ship's horns for the shipping industry. From the start of the company also decorative nautical oil and electric lamps are manufactured.

Special is that the company survived in a small market. The products need certificates to meet all relevant international standards. The problem is that there are countries where manufacturers produce imitations and it is sufficient for them to copy the original certificates. (Far East.)

The part of the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute that approved and certified the nautical lights, compasses and instruments in Rotterdam was concluded in 1988. This meant that all the lanterns in the future in house had to be tested and certificates provided. For this purpose a room furnished with the necessary lighting equipment, which is directed by the government, was purchased. A regular inspection by the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment was in prospect.

After the commissioning of the examination room, this room was also used for testing of new products. After 1992, also for "research and development". This resulted for example in the development of a new spotlight for barges. Thanks detailed working drawings and reports from recognized institutes such as TNO, KEMA, quick approvals of foreign inspection authorities were obtained.

After 1 ½ years of research, the "Burtone" horn was again brought on the market. A TNO test report confirmed that the horns even meet the stringent German standards. The entire range ZEEKRO-search lights was taken in hand, the entire structure was renovated to meet the CE regulations.

In 2009, the noise test area was restructured due to improved air horns complaints from the immediate vicinity. In 2010, new products - Signal Lamp w / LED, newly designed motor housing for searchlights. In 2012 the development was put in motion for an inland navigation lantern with LED technology.

The workshop today
