Onafhankelijk?

en:Celtic Christianity stelt dat: "One of the common misconceptions is that there was a ‘Roman Church’ to which the ‘Celtic’ was nationally opposed. Celtic-speaking areas were part of Latin Christendom as a whole, wherein a significant degree of liturgical and structural variation existed, along with a collective veneration of the Bishop of Rome that was no less intense in Celtic areas."

• Met het toegevoegde citaat van Tertullianus in het artikel is het duidelijk dat het Keltisch christendom zich onafhankelijk van Rome heeft ontwikkeld.
• Wellicht dat onderstaande citaat ook helpt:
  Celtic Christians of the British Isles it is believed saw themselves as independent of the Roman Catholic Church. This is supported by documentary evidence in the form of a letter by British Bishop Diaothus' to St. Augustine on the authority of Rome in Britain, this being,

  This one could say indicated that Diaothus saw the Celtic Christian Church's relationship to the Bishop of Rome as the same as its relationship to any other Christian Bishopric, nothing more, nothing less.

De crux zit hem in de vertaling van het Engelse roman, dat o.a. zowel Romeins als Rooms (katholiek) kan betekenen. In het Nederlandse artikel staat terecht (het ontbreken van) Romeins-Katholieke invloed tijdens het ontstaan van het Keltisch christendom toen er, zoals in het Engelse artikel wordt gesteld, nog geen behoefte was aan het concept van een rooms-katholieke Kerk, dat laatste kwam pas na het Oosters Schisma.

Bedankt. Waar het vooral om gaat is het "totaal onafhankelijk van Romeins-Katholieke invloed." Voor een groot deel onafhankelijk van de kerk van Rome inderdaad, maar niet "totaal onafhankelijk van Romeins-Katholieke invloed", zoals het citaat zelf ook beschrijft... OK, er bestond inderdaad nog geen Rooms-Katholieke kerk als zodanig, maar wel een kerk van Rome, waarmee de Keltische kerken in contact stonden. Bedwyr 16 apr 2008 23:34 (CEST)
