Hi Kontrollstellekundl (assuming you don't speak Dutch), why are you adding   characters here where they aren't needed and removing them where they are "required"? Also, the usage of is afaik uncommon on nlwiki, but I don't see a reason not to do that. Kind regards, Ennomien (overleg) 4 mei 2023 23:23 (CEST)[reageer]

Good morning Ennomien, thank u for your questions and writing in English, also I understand most of written Dutch...
when u add nbsp=non braking spaces, u can improve reading because u have less line ends wich end like a lost baby,
in tabels u use them to keep numbers and names (e.g. km, inw. ...) in one line;
when u have a single long word in a column u dont need a nbsp for short words ... and skip them for saving space...
vice verse with spy u can split words only if nesessary for small screens or mobiles, on a wide screen u will not be disturbed by them - and as u saw - it works (mostly in table headings) and brings an overbroad table back to almost fit on a small screen...
try it with Ctrl+0 and scale up + down! see also this where I am currently working on...
Kind regards + tot sins in Oostenrijk! ;-) Kontrollstellekundl (overleg) 5 mei 2023 09:14 (CEST)[reageer]
Thanks for your reaction. I already knew what the characters were doing, but still thanks for explaining. :)
You're saying you are using nbsp for less abrupt line ends. I understand that, although here it's not very common to do it with Europees Nederland af. for example. I can live with that.
Now my real question: why are you removing them (in that same edit) in this cell: 814 km (and many others)? That's what we usually use them for, namely in between numbers and units. Thanks in advance, Ennomien (overleg) 5 mei 2023 10:36 (CEST)[reageer]
When u have a line header (Afstand) with 7 letters, the column will never be smaller than the needed space for 7 letters, 814 km = 6 letters only.
So all other entries in the column with less letters dont need a nbsp - that means the column width depends on the longest word or longest entry (number+nbsp+unit) in each column!
I work on table and list pages mostly, because they are very complicated, and even I have to try sometimes how it works - especially in an other language. English tables are not the same as Nederlands and Deutsch, more (better) funktions for column formatting are in the Spanish WP, see −33.154 bytes less! ;-) Kontrollstellekundl (overleg) 5 mei 2023 16:06 (CEST)[reageer]
Thanks for your explanation. It sounds very logical, never thought about it like that. I won't bother you any further. ;)
