Trofee van de Ligue 2

De Ligue 2 is de tweede divisie in het Franse voetbal. Samen met de hogere Ligue 1 wordt deze georganiseerd door de Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP). Van 1933 tot 2002 was de competitie bekend onder de naam Division 2.

Competitieformat

De 20 clubs uit de Ligue 2 komen elkaar elk seizoen twee keer tegen in een thuis- en uitwedstrijd. Dit betekent dat er per seizoen per club 38 wedstrijden worden gespeeld. Aan het eind van het seizoen promoveren de 2 hoogst hoogst geklasseerde clubs naar de Ligue 1 en de nummers 3 t/m 5 spelen play-offs met de nummer 16 van de Ligue 1 voor het laatste ticket in het hoogste niveau voor het seizoen erna. In 2022/23 waren er geen play-offs, omdat de Ligue 1 terugging van 20 naar 18 clubs. De drie laagst geklasseerde clubs uit deze divisie degraderen naar de Ligue 3 (derde niveau). AS Monaco uit Monaco heeft ook enkele keren meegedaan aan de Ligue 2, meestal promoveerde het snel naar het hoogste niveau.

Divisie kampioenen

In de seizoenen 1933/34, 1945/46 en van 1970/71 tot en met 1992/93 bestond de divisie uit meerdere groepen (Noord, Midden en Zuid of Groep A, B en C).
