Zo, nu is er ook een Wikipedia NL ambassade. Nu nog een ambassadeur. Is natuurlijk een functie die geen functie is en waarschijnlijk niets zal van komen, maar toch. Ook ere-functies moeten ingevuld worden. Aangezien de wereld van Wikipedia draait rond de Engelstalige Wikipedia zou het best iemand zijn die goed Engels kan, ook op de Engelstalige actief is en de discussielijsten leest. Terwijl we bezig zijn, in de Friese Wikipedia lijkt niet veel leven te zitten en alle Friezen spreken veronderstel ik toch ook wel Nederlands. Daarom dacht ik ook een Frysk Consulaat op te richten. Voorlopig in het Nederlands. Dit zou kunnen helpen om de Friese Wikipedia in de zaailingfase te houden. Zonder porren vrees ik dat de Friese WIkipedia wel eens een dode Wikipedia zou kunnen worden. Spreekt (en schrijft)er iemand hier eigenlijk Fries? (ik niet) -- Friese consult spelen wil ik gerust doen hoor, maar als er iemand zou zijn die Fries spreekt zou dat wel beter zijn. "Ambassade" = platform voor Interwiki-samenwerking?

In de duits- (de:Wikipedia:Botschaft) en engelstalige (en:Wikipedia:Local Embassy) Wikipedia is de "Ambassade" vooral een lijst met afdelingen voor (min of meer) iedere vreemde taal, waar gebruikers zich zelf kunnen inschrijven, als zij berijd zijn om andere gebruikers te helpen met vertaling enz. Als iemand dus bij voorbeeld vooral frans spreekt en schrijft en in de engelstalige Wikipedia een fout vindt, die hij graag zou willen corrigeren, maar zelf daarvoor niet goed genoeg engels kan, dan kan hij in de Embassy onder het hoofdstuk "Français" een aantal gebruikers vinden, die frans en engels spreken en schrijven en berijd zijn, in zo'n geval te helpen. Is het de bedoeling, dat de "Ambassade" hier in de nederlandse Wikipedia ook zo'n rol zou moeten gaan spelen? Zou ik mijzelf dan mogen erbijschrijven om te helpen met duits-frans-engels en italiaans? Of is dat helemaal niet nodig, omdat de meeste beschaafde nederlanders sowieso één à drie vreemde talen spreken en schrijven?! Pronunciation of names

This suggestion crossed my mind quite a long time ago, but now, during the World Cup, I decided to try and bring it to life. the matter is that names of some footballers - Kuijt, Kluivert, Mathijsen - have been pronounced by Polish (and not only) commentators in a lot of diferent ways. Would it be possible to make a set of audio files (like in the article Johan Cruijff) with the proper pronunciation of names of the most notable sportpeople, politicians and artists? Wapen van Bremen / Jurjan Baeck

Dear neighbors,

I’ve just written this small article for the german Wikipedia about a 17th / 18th century convoy ship from Bremen, called Wappen von Bremen or Wapen van Bremen, employed mainly to protect the shipping routes from the Weser estuary to England and the Netherlands. The ship was reportedly build 1674 in the Netherlands and was comanded by a dutch captain known in Bremen as Jürgen Bake and probably originally named Jurjan Baeck. Before beeing captain of the Wappen von Bremen (from 1691 to 1698 and again in 1704) he was employed in or by the city of Amsterdam and seemed to have had a job of some standing there.

Since I would like to add some more information about Baeck / Bake and the origin of the Wappen von Bremen, I would like to ask, if someone here has access to a major dutch encyclopedia and / or register of 17th century ships and captains and could check there if something is available.

Would somebody like to look at en:Raenette Wan - Ten Schaepen-Koeienveldtdorp, a new article in the English Wikipedia, which is suspected of being a hoax. Do you know of this village near Veendam where no-one under 70 may go? Is "Koeienveldtdorp" a probable name for a person? You can read on the article's talk page how the author and one supporter, both new accounts, have consistently failed to provide any reliable source. If none is supplied soon, I shall start a deletion process; that will still give several days for information to be supplied if the village is real. Please reply on the article's talk page. Information about de-sysop in dutch wiki

Hi. This is 3coma14, coming from the spanish wikipedia. I'm trying to gather data about how other wikis deal with the de-adminship politics, in order to have an overall view before discussing our own politic.

I would be very grateful if any of you is so kind to give answer to these questions:

• Do you have a specific politic to handle with this?
• Is it by committee or is put to the popular vote?
• If voting
  • Who can vote?
  • What percentage of support is required to maintain the flag?
• Do you loose the flag due to long periods of absence?
• How many de-sysop have occurred in your wiki? (if possible, separated by reasons: I mean, not mixing voluntary with forced cases, or absent-caused cases with admins with a discussed trust).
• How many administrators do you have?
• (And any other relevant data you may consider)

I'll try to answer the questions, my English is not to good, but hopefully understandable.

In the dutch wiki we've 4 ways on which a sysop can loose his rights.

1. Ask on meta to remove his or her own rights
2. Not enough edits in a year, an admin who hasn't done 50 edits in the last 365 will lose his rights. I think this happened 10-20 times in the past.
3. Every user (at least 100 edits?) can start a desysop for an admin. The admin needs to get 75% support to keep his rights. 16 desysops have been started (Overview. Only one time the admin lost his rights. For every sysop this procedure can only be started once in 6 months. This never happends with as reason "inactive" but mainly because an admin did something the user didn't like.
4. ([4]) Once a year a sysop has a "herbevestigingsprocedure" (=reinstatement or confirmation procedure --DerekvG 18 mrt 2010 13:41 (CET))(the sysops are separated in 4 groups so this procedure is every 3 months for 1/4th of the sysops). There is a first round in which users (100 edits at least) can oppose against an sysop. If a sysop gets 4 opposes he will go to the 2nd round. In this round the sysop has to get 75% support to keep his rights. In this procedure we've lost 18 mods since 2006 in the second round, some of those 18 asked to revoke their rights during the second voting-round. (mainly because they are thought to be not active enough).

• We have 66 admins and 2 special admins (who don't edit on the wiki). Above that we've 81 ex-admins.
• I think our arbcom can in theory revoke the rights from an admin but this has never happened in the past. And as far as I can remember nobody has asked them to revoke an admin his or her rights.

a list of keywords

Hello,

I'm doing my project into language processing and I'm using Wikipedia. I want to use several languages in the tests, included the one of this version. And since I need some articles to analyze I wanted to ask for your help. Precisely, some keywords I will explain now.

Actually what I am looking for is a list in your language with the names of those territories which represents an entity of speakers (therefore possible wikipedia contributors) of your language, the name its people or gentilic, and the name of the language (if it is the same language and it has a different name). These territories must be in practice independent from each others or at least be considered so by the speakers. This is the case of colonies, excolonies, other countries which historically speak the same language or minorities attached into the country next to yours.

For example, a list in english something like. "english", "england", "irish", "ireland", "scottish", "scotland", "british", "united_kingdom", "american", "united_states", "canada", "canadian", "australia", "australian", "new_zealand", "new_zealander". Probably there are some others which are not very big but I don't know cuz I'm not familiar.

Foundation Images Policy

Hi everyone,
I am Yosri from Malay Wikipedia. Recently I was informed by certain parties that MS Wiki need to delete any images tagged as Non-Commercial under Foundation Licensing policy. After I have done some studies, I realised that Wikipedia Foundations is moving towards allowing commercialises all images, as such they are acting on behalf of commercial company to require all images loaded with tagging Non-Commercial in all Wiki Project to be removed, including those loaded in local Wiki. Vote canvassing for Arbitration Comittee Elections

Good evening. I am writing to you to raise the issue of off-wiki vote canvassing for a particular candidate of the local Arbcom election currently in progress. During the evening, I've visited #wikipedia-nl on Freenode IRC, and been greeted, as have several other users entering the channel, with a direct link to the Arbcom voting, and a section to vote for a certain candidate. I don't know entirely about your rules and procedures, but certainly on the English Wikipedia, where I'm resident, vote canvassing in any form for an Election is forbidden entirely.

I have made a log of the IRC channel to provide proof of the canvassing taking place, and I am happy to release this to a properly authorised user (someone from the current ARBCOM probably), but only in confidence, since directly publishing the logs as I understand it, is also strictly forbidden.

Your urgent attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Zum Beispiel wird meine Benutzerseite nur in die Kategorie Wikipedia:Gebruiker de-M eingeräumt und nicht noch in die Dachkategorie Wikipedia:Gebruiker de. Ich habe jedoch eine einzige Benutzerseite gefunden, die in einer solchen Dachkategorie einsortiert war, und habe diese Benutzerseite da raus genommen, weil ich glaubte, diese Benutzerseite sei nur versehentlich in dieser Dachkategorie. Asturian is alive and in use.

Next September 12 and 13, the Asturian Wikipedia community of users will celebrate with the support of Wikimedia España Chapter the tenth anniversary of Uiquipedia, the free encyclopedia in Asturian. The events will take place in Auditorio Príncipe Felipe (Plaza La Gesta, Oviedo).

The first article in Asturian was «Zazaki», a minority language spoken in Turkey. That first edit was in July 26, 2004. Ten years later, more than 800 000 edits have been made on almost 20 000 articles, and numbers are growing every day with the work of tens of volunteers. And it doesn’t stop there: other Wikimedia projects in Asturian have developed, such as Wikicionary, Wikisource and Wikiquote. Managed by Wikimedia Foundation, all of them make part of a global movement that started in 2001 when Wikipedia started with the goal of delivering freely all human knowledge.

To commemorate this date, Uiquipedia and Wikimedia España are carrying out two days of celebration events so that the projects in Asturian are better known. Literature, poetry music and traditions in Asturian will be present. It’s free and everybody is welcome. In addition, Wikimedia España will have its annual General Assembly in Oviedo.

Edit request: exchange Tibetan flag for Tibetan landscape to remove political undertones in "Tibet portals"

At Portaal:Tibet the Tibetan separatist/independence flag, which is banned in Mainland China, is being used here. Wikipedia is supposed to be politically neutral and using the flag could be seen as taking a political stance (much like the use of the Vietnamese flag in relation to overseas Vietnamese). I think the File:Potala palace24.jpg (which is used in en:Template:WikiProject Tibet) is far more suitable as there are no political undertones here.

The portal should be able to have "Tibetan separatism" as a featured topic/article and in that case the flag ought to be able to be displayed there. It's just that the flag doesn't belong in the header. Wikipedia shouldn't be seen as endorsing the political movement.

The Tibetan flag should be mentioned in articles about separatism and sections about separatism and/or the historical use of the flag (before it became known as a separatist flag), but it should not be used unnecessarily. WhisperToMe (overleg) 13 apr 2016 01:29 (CEST)

Actually, only the symbol of Tibet is a separated symbol, we'd better not use it. But the flag? it's just a history flag of Tibet used from 1912 to 1951, the photo can prove it. Seperate flag? The Chinese Wikipedia says that only Chinese government think it's a separate flag; 14th Dalai Lama says it's a only autonomous flag. ([6][7][8]).
Wikipedia is not censored. wikipedia is not a website in Red China, so it's no need to obey laws in China, just obey law in Florida is enough.

Unfortunately the Tibetan flag has become a symbol of the independence/separatism movement. Wikipedia should post information that may be unfavorable towards certain governments, but it should not show favoritism toward a political point of view. I believe using that Tibetan flag would show favoritism towards one side.

Wiki Science Competition has started

Hi! Wiki Science Competition has started, sitenotices have appeared for sure in Spain, Austria, Russian Federation, USA and Ukraine, and Italy will join soon with a massive national campaign.

As a member of the academic committee I did my best to reduce the gap between countries both in the composition of the juries and now in the outreach. I did inform many platforms (enwiki, eswiki, frwiki) during the preparation of the event, now I am informing all national institutions, associations and federations of science and technology I can contact, especially those located in countries without national juries (so, also in Belgium and NL) and I am posting notes on LinkedIn groups everyday, and I am contacting national chapters and user groups.. and so on. That's why I am here.

We prepared banners for many countries but on meta they say it is not wise to use them all, so if you want to use the style and do one here on your wiki for few days, just let us know. In your case the banner is not country-specific so it is generic.

SBS Broadcasting/Talpa TV (bedrijf)

The article currently named Talpa TV (bedrijf) was about the SBS Broadcasting Group (whole Europe) in general. The article was previously named SBS Broadcasting, and is still interwiki-linked to en:SBS Broadcasting Group (wikidata:Q2143391). But for some reason, the portion about the now-gone company's business in the Netherlands increased, remains unseparated, and the article was moved to Talpa TV (bedrijf) when the remaining Dutch company now under Talpa was actually renamed.
