Wie ben ik & wat doe ik in de wikipedia?

Mijn naam is Olof Bekedam (* 1954), ik woon in Amsterdam en ik heb ooit Nederlandse taal- en letterkunde aan de UvA gestudeerd. Daarna heb ik 25 jaar bij een zorgverzekeraar gewerkt. Ik ben sinds maart 2010 op diverse plaatsen - o.a. voor de R.K. Nicolaasparochie in Amsterdam - als vrijwilliger actief. Sinds augustus 2011 heb ik, onder mijn eigen naam, ook een - wisselend actieve - Facebook-account 3).

Ik werk sinds april 2010 op de Wikipedia onder deze gebruikersnaam: De Jaren. 1) Ik begin mijn bewerkingen vaak op de jaartalpagina's, en houd me van daaruit bezig met het aanbrengen van tekstuele en inhoudelijke verbeteringen van bestaande artikelen, met name over personen (o.a. bekende Nederlanders en buitenlanders), maar ook over andere onderwerpen die mij interesseren (of die ik al wiki-surfend tegenkom). Ook heb ik enige nieuwe artikelen opgezet; zie hieronder het lijstje van de door mij gemaakte nieuwe of vertaalde artikelen. Af en toe doe ik ook kleine bewerkingen in buitenlandse wiki's, zij het wel met de nodige terughoudendheid.

Zoals ik ook onder mijn beide vorige gebruikersnamen (en zelfs daarvóór) al deed, nummer ik mijn min of meer inhoudelijke bijdragen of tekstcorrecties (maar niet de kleine wijzigingen). Als ik dit schrijf, ben ik beland bij volgnummer 1371 (resp. 1373). Ik realiseer me dat dit verder weinig relevantie heeft (en eigenlijk alleen maar extra tijd kost), maar ik voel me er wel bij.

Vanaf 7 juli 2011 ben ik ook werkzaam op mijn eigen pc (O, Obg). Ik werk nu op drie locaties: S(HS), KS (incidenteel) en O(bg) 2). Bij mijn DJ-mutaties voeg ik de meest voorkomende locatie Obg (thuis dus) niet langer toe.

Naar aanleiding van deze verschijningen werd de kapel van Maria als Vrouwe van alle Volkeren opgericht. Aanvankelijk stond de Rooms-katholieke kerk zeer sceptisch tegenoverover deze verschijningen, al toonden de latere Haarlemse bisschoppen Bomers en Punt, in wier bisdom deze verschijningen hadden plaatsgevonden, een welwillender houding. Uiteindelijk werden de verschijningen door de kerk in 2002, dus enige jaren na de dood van Peerdeman, als bovennatuurlijk erkend. (07-07-2011)

Evert Werkman

Evert Werkman (Hellendoorn, 2 februari 1915 - Amsterdam, 25 juni 1988), was een Nederlands journalist, scenarioschrijver en publicist.

Werkman, geboren als zoon van een onderwijzer, begon zijn journalistieke loopbaan bij de Opregte Haarlemsche Courant. Hij vervolgde zijn carrière bij het Algemeen Handelsblad. Hier nam hij in juni 1941 ontslag uit solidariteit met het gedwongen vertrek van zijn joodse collega's. Hij sloot zich aan bij het verzet, waar hij met name betrokken was bij het maken van het illegale dagblad Het Parool. Na de oorlog bleef hij voor deze krant werken op de Amsterdamse redactie. Voor De Groene Amsterdammer schreef hij van 1946 tot 1970 zijn befaamde gedichten in Vondel-stijl onder het pseudoniem Joost. Daarnaast was hij bekend door zijn column Amsterdams Logboek in Het Parool, die hij vanaf 1973 verzorgde, als opvolger van Henri Knap. In 1980 ging Werkman met pensioen.

Naast zijn journalistieke werk schreef Werkman talloze boeken en was hij verantwoordelijk voor de tekst van de Paroolstrip Kapitein Rob, die tot diens overlijden in 1966 werd getekend door Pieter Kuhn.

Elsa Maxwell

Elsa Maxwell (Keokuk, Iowa, 24 mei 1883 - New York City, 1 november 1963) was een Amerikaans roddelcolumniste, (liedjes)schrijfster, scenariste en professioneel gastvrouw. Zij was vermaard om haar feesten voor koninklijke gasten en andere beroemde societyfiguren uit haar tijd.

Aan Maxwell wordt de introductie van het gebruik van de scavenger hunt en de treasure hunt als partygames toegeschreven [1] Zij verscheen als zichzelf in de films Stage Door Canteen (1943) en Rhapsody in Blue (1945); ze trad ook op in de film Hotel for Women uit 1939, waarvoor zij zelf het scenario geschreven had.

Elsa Maxwell bracht in de zomer van 1948 de actrice Rita Hayworth in contact met prins Aly Khan.[2]

In 1953 bracht Elsa Maxwell een enkel nummer van haar tijdschrift Elsa Maxwell's Café Society uit. Dit bevatte op het omslag een portret van Zsa Zsa Gabor. Anne Edwards' biografie van Maria Callas (Callas, 2001) en Peter Evans' biografie van Aristoteles Onassis stellen beide dat that Maxwell Callas aan Onassis voorstelde.[3][4] Edwards beweert ook dat Maxwell, die lesbisch was, probeerde Callas, die 40 jaar jonger was dan zij, te verleiden.[5] Callas biograaf Stelios Galatopoulos pulbiceerde liefdesbrieven produced van Maxwell aan Callas, die hierven overigens niet gediend was.[6]

De Schotse societyfiguur <<socialite>> en zangeres and Dorothy "Dickie" Fellowes-Gordon was van 1912 tot 1963 Maxwell's vriendin. Fellowes-Gordon was ook Maxwell's enige erfgenaam.[7]

Thomás Borge

MANAGUA - Tomás Borge Martinez (Matagalpa, 13 augustus 1930 - Managua, 30 april 2012) was een Nicaraguaans politicus. Hij was een der oprichters van de Sandinistische beweging. Borge was de laatst overgebleven oprichter van de linkse Nicaraguaanse guerrillabeweging, die in 1979 het door de Verenigde Staten gesteunde regime van de rechtse dictator Anastasio Somoza Debayle (1925-1980) verdreef. Na de machtsovername door de Sandinisten werd Borge minister van Binnenlandse Zaken.

Borge en anderen richtten in 1961 het Nationaal Sandinistisch Bevrijdingsfront (FSLN)op, met als doel een eind te maken aan de hegemonie van de gehate familie Somoza, die sinds 1937 aan het bewind was in Nicaragua. Daniel Ortega, die in 2011 werd herkozen tot president van Nicaragua, kwam pas later bij de beweging.

In 1956 werd Borge gearresteerd wegens betrokkenheid bij een complot dat leidde tot de moord op dictator Anastasio Somoza García (1896-1956). Hij zat drie jaar gevangen, maar wist te ontsnappen en vluchtte naar het buitenland. Na een paar jaar keerde hij terug naar zijn vaderland. In de jaren zeventig belandde hij wegens subversieve activiteiten opnieuw in de gevangenis. Hij kwam in 1978 vrij, toen een commando-eenheid van de Sandinisten onder leiding van Edén Pastora (Commandante Zero) het complete parlement gijzelde en de leden hiervan ruilde tegen een groep gevangen kameraden.

Als minister van Binnenlandse Zaken werd Borge beschuldigd van het uitzetten en terroriseren van katholieke geestelijken, als onderdeel van de strijd tegen de Contra’s, die in de jaren tachtig met steun van de VS de Sandinisten probeerden te verdrijven. Ook stelde hij een strenge perscensuur in en verbood hij sommige nieuwsmedia. Borge is er ook van beschuldigd opdracht te hebben gegeven tot het verjagen en vermoorden van Miskito-indianen die werden verdacht van tegen de Sandinisten gerichte activiteiten. Voorts zou hij tijdens de eerste ambtstermijn van Ortega 37 gedetineerde leden van de oppositie hebben laten vermoorden, maar dat heeft hij altijd ontkend.

Behoorde Borge in eerste instantie tot de hardliners, later steunde hij de politiek van nationale verzoening en hielp hij mee de Sandinistische beweging te hervormen.

Borge was minister tot 1990. In dat jaar verloren de Sandinisten de verkiezingen. Hij werd lid van het parlement en later ambassadeur in Peru. Dat bleef hij tot hij ziek werd. Kort voor de presidentsverkiezingen van 2011 zei Borge dat de Sandinisten altijd aan de macht zouden blijven. Toen hem werd gevraagd wie hij het meest bewonderde zei hij: “Ten eerste, Fidel Castro. Ten tweede, Fidel Castro. Ten derde, Fidel Castro. Ten vierde, Fidel Castro. Ten vijfde, Fidel Castro.”

Thomás Borge was tevens schrijver, dichter en schreef een autobiografie.

Helene Tursten

Helene Tursten (Gothenburg, 17 februari 1954) is een Zweeds schrijfster van misdaadverhalen. De hoofdpersoon in haar verhalen is detective-inspecteur Irene Huss. Voordat Tursten schrijfster werd, werkte ze als verpleegster en als tandarts, maar door ziekte was ze gewongen om die baan op te geven. Tijdens haar ziekte hield ze zich bezig met het vertalen van medische artikelen. Haar boeken zijn inmiddels vertaald in het Engels, het Duits en het Noors.

David Hamilton

David Hamilton (Londen, 15 april 1933) is een in Groot-Brittanië geboren Franse fotograaf en regisseur van een aantal films; hij is het meest bekend geworden door zijn portetten van jonge vrouwen.

Leven en carrière

Hamilton groeide op in Londen. Zijn schoolopleiding werd onderbroken door de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Als evacué bracht hij enige rtijd door op het platteland van Dorset, welk verblijf steeds een inspiratiebron voor zijn werk gebleven is. Na de oorlog keerde Hamilton terug naar Londen. Nadat hij daar zijn school had afgemaakt, vertrok hij naar Frankrijk, waar hij sindsdien gewoond heeft.

Hamilton's artistieke begaafdheid trad aan het licht tijdens een baantje op een architectenbureau. Op 20-jarige leeftijd ging hij naar Parijs, waar hij werkte als grafisch ontwerper voor het vrouwenblad ELLE. Nadat hij daar naam gemaakt had, werd hij door het Londense blad Queen weggekocht, waar hij art director werd. Al snel realiseerde Hamilton zich echter hoeveel hij van Parijs hield, en keerde naar deze stad terug. Hier werd hij de art director van Printemps, het grootste warenhuis van Parijs. Hamilton begon, terwijl hij daar nog in dienst was, commerciële foto's te maken. De dromerige, korrige stijl van zijn foto's bracht hem al spoedig succes, en ze werden in verschillende toonaangevende bladen gepubliceerd.

Tegen het einde van de jaren '60 had Hamilton een kenmerkende stijl ontwikkeld. Hij had onder meer succes met tientallen fotoboeken, die gezamenlijk een miljoenenoplage bereikten. Daarnaast regisseerde Hamilton vijf speelfims, waarvan Bilitis uit 1977 de bekendste zou worden. Verder bleef Hamilton in tijdschriften publiceren en had hij tentoonstellingen in diverse galerieën. In die jaren had Hamilton ook een appartement in New York.

Zijn soft focus-stijl kwam rond 2003 weer in de mode in Vogue, ELLE en andere modebladen.

Hamilton was aanvankelijk getrouwd met Mona Kristensen, die model stond voor veel van zijn vroege fotoboeken; zij maakte haar filmdebuut in Bilitis. Later huwde hij met Gertrude Hamilton, die medeverantwoordelijk was voor zijn boek The Age of Innocence,[8]. Zij zijn inmiddels als vrienden uit elkaar gegaan en zij werkt sindsdien in New York als schilderes.

Hamilton verdeelt zijn tijd tegenwwordig tussen Saint Tropez en Parijs. Sinds 2005 geniet hij van een heropleving van zijn populariteit. In 2006 kwamen twee nieuwe boeken van hem uit: David Hamilton, een collectie foto's met onderschriften, en Erotic Tales, dat een aantal korte verhalen van Hamilton bevat.

Controverse

Veel van Hamilton's werk betreft meisjes in hun jonge tienerjaren, die vaak naakt in beeld worden gebracht. Hierdoor is een zekere controverse ontstaan, waarbij Hamilton zelfs van kinderpornografie bechuldigd werd. In de late jaren '90 protesteerden sommigen, met name in de Verenigde Staten en in Engeland, tegen boekhandels die fotoboeken vsn Hamilton in voorraad hadden, maar uiteindelijk leidde deze protesten tot niets. In 2005 beweerde een Engelse politiefunctionaris ten onrechte dat het in bezit hebben van werk van Hamilton onwettig zou zijn; hiervoor moest de politie later haar excuses maken.

The Guardian schreef dat Hamilton's foto's lange tijd een voorname rol gespeeld hebben in het debat over wat als kunst en wat als pornografie moet worden opgevat. [9]

Keith Campbell (bioloog)

Keith H. S. Campbell (23 mei 1954 - 5 oktober 2012) was een Engels (Schots) bioloog die lid van van het team dat in 1996 voor het eerst een zoogdier kloonde, het schaap Dolly. Hierbij werd gebruik gemaakt van cellen uit de uiers van een volwassen ooi (dus niet van nog niet gespecificeerde stamcellen uit een embryo).

Campbell groeide op in het Engelse Birmingham en in Perth in Schotland. Hij behaalde een graad in de microbiologie aan de Universiteit van Londen. In 1983 werd aan Campbell de Marie Curie Research Scholarship toegekend die ertoe leidde dat hij een postdoctrale studie ging volgen en later zijn doctorsgraad haalde aan de Universiteit van Sussex in Brighton.

Onderzoek

Campbell's interesse in het klonen van zoogdieren werd geïnspireerd door het werk van Karl Illmensee en de latere Nobelprijswinnaar John Gurdon.

Campbell werkte vanaf 1991 aan het Roslin Instituut en raakte betrokken bij de kloningsinspanningen onder leiding van Ian Wilmut. In juli 1995 slaagden Keith Campell en Bill Ritchie erin een paar lammeren, Megan en Morag, te maken van al gespecialiseerde embryocellen. Vervolgens gebruikte in 1996 het team van Ian Wilmut, waaraan Keith Campbell de grootste bijdrage (66%) leverde, dezelfde techniek en schokte de wereld door het succesvol klonen van een schaap met gebruikmaking van cellen uit de uiers van een volwassen schaap. Dolly, een schaap van het ras Finn Dorset, genoemd naar de zangeres Dolly Parton, werd geboren in 1996 en leefde 6 jaar, tot het stierf aan een virale infectie (en niet van ouderdom, zoals wel gesuggereerd is). Campbell heeft bij dit kloningsproces een cruciale rol gespeeld.

In 1998 kloonden Ritchie en Campbell in samenwerking met de PPL (Pharmaceutical Proteins Limited) een ander schaap, dat ze 'Polly' noemden. Dit schaap was gemaakt van genetisch gemanipuleerde huidcellen, waarin ook een menselijk gen zat.

In 2000, nadat hij was gaan werken bij PPL Ltd, produceerde Campbell met zijn team (dat zijn basis had in Noord Amerika) met succes de eerste biggen door het transplanteren van de kernen van lichaamscellen, de zogenoemde somatic-cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). Verder gebruikten de PPL-teams in Roslin (Schotland) en Blacksburg (USA) deze techniek om voor het eerst gericht huisdieren te maken, alsook een aantal dieren die via hun melk menselijke proteïnen aanmaken, die voor therapeutische doeleinden gebruikt kunnen worden.

Vanaf november 1999 bekleedde Campbell een leerstoel aan de Universiteit van Nottingham, waar hij zijn studie naar de groei en de differentiatie van het embryo voortzette. Hij ondersteunde het gebruik van de door hem ontwikkelde SCNT-techniek voor de productie van persoonsgerichte stamceltherapieën en voor de studie naar ziekten van de mens, en het gebruik van ingevroren embryo's in verband met het gebrek aan menselijke eicellen voor onderzoeksdoeleinden.

In 2008 ontving Keith Campbell de Shaw Prize voor Medische en Levenswetenschappen samen met Ian Wilmut en de Japanner Shinya Yamanaka.[10]

Chadli Bendjedid (Arabisch: شاذلي بن جديد) (Bouteldja (Algerije), 14 april 1929 – Algiers, 6 oktober 2012) was de derde president van Algerije; hij regeerde bijna 13 jaar, van 1979 tot 1992.

Carrière

Bendjedid diende als officier in het Franse leger en vocht in de oorlog in Indochina. Hij liep over naar het Nationaal Bevrijdingsfront van Algerije (het FLN) aan het begin van de Algerijnse vrijheidsoorlog in 1954. Als protégé van Houari Boumediene werd Bendjedid beloond met het militaire commando over de regio Oran 1964. Na de onafhankelijkheid van Algerije steeg hij snel in rang; hij werd kolonel in 1969.

Bendjedid was minister van defensie van november 1978 tot februari 1979 en werd president nadat Boumédiènne in 1978 overleden was. Bendjedid kwam als compromiskandidaat aan de macht na een strijd om het partijleiderschap en het presidentschap op het vierde congres van de FLN dat gehouden werd van 27 - 31 januari 1979.

Toen hij eenmaal aan de macht was, verkleinde Bendjedid de rol van de staat in de economie en vergemakkelijke hij het staarstoezicht op de burgers. In de late jaren '80, toen de economie achteruit ging als gevolg van de snelle daling van de olieprijs, ontstond er spanning tussen de delen van het regime die Bendjedid's politiek van economische liberalisatie steunden en degenen die een terugkeer naar de staatsgeleide economie voorstonden. In oktober 1988 mondden jeugdbetogingen, die met het roepen van slogans tegen Bendjedid protesteerden tegen de buitenlandpolitiek van het regime, austerity policies, uit in massale rellen, die nu bekend staan als de Oktoberrellen. Deze breidden zich uit naar Oran, Annaba en andere steden; de brute onderdrukking van de relschoppers door het leger leidde tot honderden doden.

Toen in 1991 de militairen tussenbeide kwamen om te voorkomen dat bij de toen gehouden verkiezingen het Islamitisch Front (FIS) aan de macht kwam, dwongen zij Bendjedid af te treden; dit proces mondde uit in de lange en bloedige Algerijnse Burgeroorlog.

Sinds januari 1992 is Bendjedid grotendeels buiten de politiek gebleven. Eind 2008 trad hij weer in het openbaar toen hij een controversiële redevoering hield op een conferentie in zijn woonplaats Al-Tarif.

Aangekondigd was dat Bendjedid's memoires op 1 november 2012 zouden verschijnen; deze datum valt samen met de 58e verjaardag van het uitbreken van de nationale bevrijdingsoorlog.

Early life

Brinkley was born Christie Lee Hudson in Monroe, Michigan,[11] the daughter of Marjorie (née Bowling) and Herbert Hudson. Her family moved to Canoga Park, Los Angeles, California, where her mother Marjorie later met and married television writer Don Brinkley in Bel Air, Los Angeles. Don adopted Christie and her brother Gregory Donald Brinkley. During this time, the family lived in Malibu and then the Brentwood neighborhoods of Los Angeles. Brinkley was educated at Paul Revere Junior High School and attended Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles from 9th to 12th grade.[12] After graduation in 1973, she moved to Paris, France, to study art.[11][13]

Career

Brinkley was discovered in 1973 by American photographer Errol Sawyer in a post office in Paris.[14] He took her first modeling pictures and introduced her to John Casablancas of Elite Model Management agency in Paris.[15] Brinkley stated later: "I was basically a surfer girl from California. I never looked like a model."[13] After being introduced to Elite, where Brinkley met the fashion photographers Patrick Demarchelier and Mike Reinhardt[16] who called Eileen Ford and told her about Brinkley,[14] she returned to California, and by the end of a lunch meeting with Nina Blanchard (Eileen Ford affiliate in Los Angeles) she had been booked for three national ad campaigns.[13] Multiple appearances on the cover of Glamour soon followed, along with a record 25-year contract with cosmetics brand CoverGirl, one of the longest modeling contracts in history.[13][17][18] In 2005, CoverGirl again signed Brinkley, using her in ads in magazines and TV commercials for mature skin products.[19]

Brinkley played her first role as an actress in the 1983 film National Lampoon's Vacation as "The girl in the red Ferrari" opposite Chevy Chase; she reprised that role in the 1997 sequel Vegas Vacation.[27] and later spoofed it in a 2008 DirecTV commercial interspliced with footage from Vacation,[28] and again in a 2015 Infiniti commercial as the wife in the Infiniti. (The blonde in the convertible for this spoof is model Scarlett Burke.)[29] In 2011, she appeared as herself in the documentary, King of the Hamptons, which was produced by filmmaker, Dennis Michael Lynch. The film premiered at the 2010 Hamptons International Film Festival. In 1983, Brinkley wrote and illustrated a book on health and beauty titled Christie Brinkley's Outdoor Beauty and Fitness Book, which topped the New York Times best seller list.[26] In 1989 Brinkley was, along with Cheryl Tiegs and Beverly Johnson, one of the three models featured as dolls produced by Matchbox Toys called The Real Model Collection.[35] Brinkley illustrated the cover art for Billy Joel's 1993 triple platinum album River of Dreams. For this, Rolling Stone awarded her the honor of "Best album cover of the year".[19] Brinkley has designed clothing patterns for Simplicity Pattern[33] and in March, 1994 helped design, for brand Nouveau Eyewear, her line of prescription glasses and sunglasses called Christie Brinkley Perspectives with worldwide sales.[23][26] In Spring 1998 she released her own signature fragrance, Believe.[13] Her jewelry collection is manufactured by Swank.[23]

In 1991 Brinkley was considered to have the ideal, all-American look with her blonde hair, blue eyes, slim figure, and soft features, when Allure first conducted a survey taking the pulse of the average American (men and women) searching for their beauty perceptions and preferences.[36] In 1998 Playboy readers voted Brinkley one of the 100 Sexiest Women of the 20th century.[37] Brinkley is ranked third in the AskMen.com Top 10 Supermodels Of All Time.[38] In 2011, Men's Health named her one of the "100 Hottest Women of All-Time", ranking her at No. 16.[39] Pop-topia.com named her No. 1 on their list of "10 Hottest Hollywood Women In Their 50's" in 2013.[40]

Brinkley had a guest role in December 2012 on the hit comedy sitcom Parks and Recreation. In the episode "Ron and Diane" she played Gayle Gergich, wife of Jerry Gergich played by Jim O'Heir.[41] In December 2012, Brinkley co-hosted Anderson Cooper Live and also danced with DWTS alumnus Gilles Marini during the show. Brinkley's financial holdings were worth an estimated USD $80 million in 2008, primarily as the owner of real estate, much of it in the Hamptons.[42] Brinkley was ranked third in the Daily Mail list "World's 20 richest models," released in February 2012.[43]

Personal life

In 1982, Brinkley had a romantic relationship with Olivier Chandon de Brailles, heir to the Moët-Chandon Champagne fortune. The two met at Studio 54 in New York City at a party promoting a calendar in which Brinkley appeared.[44] Chandon died a year later in an auto-race car crash during a private pre-season practice session.[45][46]

In September 2015, it was widely reported that John Mellencamp was in a new relationship with Brinkley. [47]

Marriages

  • In 1973, to French artist Jean-François Allaux; the marriage ended in 1981 without children.[44]
  • In 1985, to musician Billy Joel (born May 9, 1949); the marriage ended in 1994 and produced one child, Alexa Ray Joel.[48] Brinkley and Joel met in 1983 on the Island of St Barts, in the Caribbean and were married on March 23, 1985 on a yacht on the Hudson River, the second marriage for both. Joel was 35 and Brinkley 31 and took their vows in a private ceremony attended by 175 family members and friends, including Paul Simon and the Stray Cats. The two remain friends to this day.[44]
  • In 1994, to real estate developer Richard Taubman (born 1948). Brinkley and Taubman met in 1994 when a mutual friend introduced them. He proposed to her in May 1994, although she and Billy Joel were still married. She married Taubman on December 22, 1994, in Telluride, Colorado, near the area where they were both in a helicopter crash in March 1994. Brinkley was 40 years old and Taubman 46 and she announced at their wedding that they were expecting a baby boy. The marriage ended in 1995 with one child, Jack Paris Taubman.[44]
  • In 1996, to architect Peter Halsey Cook (born January 1, 1959). Cook and Brinkley first met in 1979 when he was modeling; their paths also crossed a few times after that. They were later reintroduced by a mutual friend, NBC's Jill Rappaport, and announced their engagement in August 1996. They married on September 21, 1996 at a ranch in Bridgehampton, New York. Brinkley was 42 and Cook 37. They had nearly 120 guests at their wedding, including Billy Joel. They had one child, Sailor Brinkley Cook.[44] They divorced on October 3, 2008.[49] The divorce proceedings, held in 2008, attracted media attention after Cook admitted that he had committed adultery with eighteen-year-old Diana Bianchi. Press and public interest increased with Cook's revelations that he had paid a large sum of money to Bianchi in the hopes of forestalling a lawsuit, and had spent thousands of dollars each month on internet pornography.[50][51] Brinkley and Cook settled out-of-court in July 2008, with Brinkley granting her fourth husband $2.1 million in exchange for custody of their two children and the retention of 18 disputed properties in the Hamptons. Additionally, Cook was granted parenting time with the children. Further details of the settlement were kept private.[19][52] The children became a focus of public attention when Brinkley contended that Cook used "overwhelming" physical force when unhappy with or disciplining the children. Alexa Ray Joel, Brinkley's daughter with ex-husband Billy Joel, testified about such behavior toward her, which Cook denied.[53] Cook wanted a judge to appoint a parenting coordinator, demand that Brinkley enroll in anger management classes and order her to cover his legal expenses.[54] In July 2008, a court-appointed psychiatrist, speaking during child custody proceedings in Brinkley's fourth divorce, testified that while he believed Brinkley should gain custody of her and Cook's children, both she and Cook needed therapy.[55] Her divorce from Cook was officially finalized on October 3, 2008.[49]

Family

Brinkley has three children:

  • Alexa Ray Joel, (born December 29, 1985), with Billy Joel.[56] The name "Ray" was given to Alexa in honor of Ray Charles.[57]
  • Jack Paris Taubman, (born June 2, 1995), with Richard Taubman. He was later adopted by Peter Cook and named Jack Paris Brinkley Cook.[58][59]
  • Sailor Lee Brinkley Cook (born July 1, 1998), with Peter Cook.

Brinkley has one brother, Gregory Donald Brinkley. Brinkley's parents, Marjorie and Don Brinkley, died in Sag Harbor in the summer of 2012 within seven weeks of each other, after a 50-plus year marriage. Both suffered from long-term illnesses. TV writer and producer Don died in July, and Marjorie in September.

Interests

Brinkley lives on Long Island in Sag Harbor, New York; she previously lived in Bridgehampton and Amagansett, Long Island.[33][60] She and her children are fans of the New York Islanders ice hockey team. Brinkley began doing promotions for the team after being noticed at games.[61] In 2007, she showed her support by writing a blog for NHL.com and filming a commercial.[62] Brinkley helped found a club for cutting, an equestrian sport in which a rider has two and one half minutes to cut as many cattle from a herd as they can.[33]

Since 1998, Brinkley has given nearly $100,000 to organizations and candidates of the Democratic Party of the United States, including Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Democratic National Committee, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, America Coming Together and Moveon.org.[60] In the New York delegation, Brinkley served as a delegate on the 2000 Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles.[63] She has also been involved in anti-nuclear activities and campaigned against the restarting of the High Flux Beam Reactor (HFBR) located at the Brookhaven National Laboratory.[64][65]

Brinkley supports animal rights, most notably through the organization PETA,[19] having previously spoken out against the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.[66][67] She became a vegetarian when she was 13 years old and then got her entire family to become vegetarians.[68][69]

  • Top Picks, in 1993 by Rolling Stone for the artistic work Brinkley did on the cover of Billy Joel's album River of Dreams.[23][26]
  • 2001 Merit Award, given by USO-The United Service Organizations Inc.. Brinkley traveled with the USO on goodwill missions to Sarajevo, Bosnia, Kosovo, Macedonia and Italy entertaining the peacekeeping forces and visiting aircraft carriers and refugee camps. After participating in Secretary of Defense William Cohen's Christmas tour to Kosovo, she was given the award in Washington DC for her efforts on behalf of American troops.[23][26]
  • Spirit of Achievement Award, at 2003 by "The Women’s Division" of Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University presented Brinkley for her charity work.[23][26]
  • Christie Brinkley Scholarship, at February, 2007 by The Ross School in East Hampton, Long Island, New York. This scholarship allow students interested in art or environment sciences get four free years at Ross High School.[70]
  • Heart Award, special honor from the American Heart Association in the "12th Annual Heart of the Hamptons Gala" for her commitment to helping children live healthier lives. Brinkley said she was very honored to receive the award from the AHA being convinced that the research from the organization made it possible for her mother to be alive after suffering five strokes.[71]
  • Smart Cookie Award, April 21, 2008, honored her and three other amazing charitable mothers in New York at the "Second Annual Smart Cookie Awards Gala", voted by Cookie Magazine readers.[72]
  • Humanitarian Award, given by March of Dimes. This organization is dedicated to improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality through research, community services, education and advocacy.[73]
  • Merit Award, by the non-profit USA national organization Mothers Voices which mission is strengthens family communication about sex, sexual health and HIV/AIDS/STD prevention through education and awareness, mobilize parents and caregivers to become their child’s frontline sexual health educator.[23][74]
  • Mother of the Year, given by The National Mothers Day committee at a ceremony held in New York City.[26]
  • Merit Award, given by Make-A-Wish Foundation in New York. They work granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.[23][73]
  • Americas Mothers and Shakers, named by Redbook Magazine for her involvement in "STAR — Standing for Truth About Radiation".[26]
  • HBA's Positively Beautiful Award, named by HBA Global Expo on behalf of her work with the international charity Smile Train.[75][76]
  • Mothers Who Make A Difference Award, given by Love Our Children USA on the 2011 Sixth Annual edition, recognizing and supporting four celebrity moms for balancing motherhood, work and causes.[77]
  • Broadway Beacon Award for her portrayal of Roxie Hart in the hit musical Chicago (June 4, 2012).[78]
  • Honor by the South Fork Natural History Museum and Nature Center for her many years of work to raise awareness about nuclear radiation and the safety of the oceans.(June 16, 2012).[79]
  • 2013 Pet Hero Award - Humanitarian of the Year by the Pet Philanthropy Circle for her strong advocate for animals, environment and wildlife.[80]

Beste Halandinh, je hebt in het door mij opgestarte artikel Ida Peerdeman tot twee keer toe een documentatievraag ([bron?]) toegevoegd. Je hebt blijkbaar echter niet gezien dat ik verwijs naar de Overlegpagina bij dit artikel, waarin ik vermeld dat ik deze feiten ontleend heb aan het al bestaande Wiki-artikel Vrouwe van alle Volkeren. Aangezien deze feiten in dat artikel niet betwist worden en ik in mijn artikel ook een link naar dit lemma heb opgenomen, ben ik ervan uitgegaan dat ik een en ander niet opnieuw hoef te documenteren: ik bouw in deze eenvoudigweg voort op de al bestaande wiki-documentatie. Ik laat jouw toevoegingen voorlopig nog even staan - ik heb geen zin een een bewerkingsoorlog over deze kleinigheid -, maar ze zijn in mijn ogen wel onterecht. Beste EvilFred / Martijn, bedankt voor het technisch oppiepen van dit artikel. Die categorieaanduiding en het correct verwerken van de externe links is voor mij altijd wat lastig. - Ik heb het stuk op je gebruikerspagina (dat naar ik mag aannemen grotendeels ironisch bedoeld is) met belangstelling gelezen. Ik merkte wel een foutje op: onder Zie ook hoort het woord behandelt met een -d gespeld te worden, en verder zou ik, onder het kopje Bibliografie in de beide zinnen die met Des te beginnen, dit door Hoe vervangen - maar misschien ligt dit wel aan mijn Noord-Nederlandse taalgevoel. Tenslotte: ook ik ben op Facebook (tegenwoordig minder op Twitter) actief, en ik nodig je graag uit om FB-vriend van mij te worden. Diversen (wiki-weetjes)

  • Vandaag, 20-06-2011, bevat de nl.wiki 700.131 artikelen; we zijn de 700.000 dus gepasseerd!
  • Op maandag 27-06-2011 bevat de nl.wiki 711.298 artikelen!

Ruim 11.000 in één week erbij dus - en dan zou de nl.wiki al "af" zijn? Ik geloof er niets van!

  • Op maandag 11-07-2011 telt de nl.wiki 736.166 artikelen; we gaan duidelijk op naar het miljoen!

(Ik zag afgelopen donderdag dat er zeer recent veel één- of tweeregelige artt. met korte, wetenschappelijke beschrijvingen van dieren en/of planten zijn bijgekomen, soms met honderden tegelijk (ik neem aan dat deze automatisch worden ingelezen vanaf een niet-wiki-betand - of zijn ze mogelijk, met lichte aanpassingen, uit bijv. de en.wiki afkomstig? En dan heb je ook nog de beschrijving van alle sterren- een planetenstelsels... Zou dit een internationale wiki-trend zijn?). <KS>

(Ca. 3000 artikelen in 17 dagen, dat is gemiddeld een kleine 200 artt. per dag.)

  • 11-12-2011, 14.15 uur: de nl.wiki heeft nu 944.554 artikelen! (d.w.z. van 20-06-2011 tot 19-09-2011, dus in drie maanden tijd, + 50.000 artikelen, en in de (nog geen) drie maanden daarna (bijna) + 200.000!!)
