De Golden Globe is waarschijnlijk, na de Oscars, de meest prestigieuze filmprijs van de Verenigde Staten van Amerika.

Naast prijzen voor films worden er ook Golden Globes uitgereikt aan televisieprogramma's. Hier moeten de Globes echter de Emmy Awards voor laten gaan wat prestige betreft.

De Globes worden sinds 1944 uitgereikt, maar de Globes voor televisieseries sinds 1956.
